Though many have called upon them to rebuild, it seems as though the Chicago Bulls might be interested in making a win-now trade. NBA insider Kyle Neubeck recently claimed that the Bulls are trying to get into the mix for Damian Lillard.
“The team that I’ve heard—I’ve made some calls, talked to some people—that is kind of the wild card, getting-into-the-mix team, is the Chicago Bulls. I know that the Bulls, throughout this offseason—Zach LaVine’s name has been thrown into the rumor mill a little bit. The Bulls shot that down publicly. The suggestion has been out there that if, or when, they trade LaVine they would want a star-level return, young players, picks, things with upside as they start to retool and reimagine their roster. What I have heard in the last few days is that it looks like they might be trying to move LaVine as part of a multi-team deal to see if they can get into the Dame Lillard sweepstakes.” (2:30)
It is well-known that Damian Lillard wants to get traded to the Miami Heat. However, if another team offers the best deal, it is quite possible that the Portland Trail Blazers would be willing to move him to that franchise.
Damian Lillard averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game for the Trail Blazers last season while shooting 37.1% from 3PT range. He can definitely be a difference-maker for the Chicago Bulls, and it remains to be seen if they can muster up enough assets to acquire him.
The Portland Trail Blazers Are Willing To Trade Damian Lillard To A Team He Doesn’t Like
Though many expected the Portland Trail Blazers to move Damian Lillard to a destination of his choice, the team is not inclined to do so. In fact, it was reported that the Trail Blazers lied to Lillard about their willingness to move him to his preferred destination.
“They kept assuring him… “We’re going to win around you or we’ll take care of you”… Damian Lillard gave the Blazers a list of multiple teams… When he went to them and said, ‘I want to be traded to 1 of these teams’, Joe Cronin told him, ‘We’re gonna do what’s best for us, I don’t care what you get back’ & Dame was pissed… Then he’s like, ‘Screw you I’m only picking Miami then’”
Hopefully, we do see the Trail Blazers move Lillard to a destination where he can realistically compete. The Chicago Bulls will be much better with his addition, but it is unclear if they will be able to win a championship.
