NBA Rumors: Knicks Could Pursue Collin Sexton Sign-And-Trade If His Contract Extension Talks With Cavaliers Fall Through

Collin Sexton has made a name for himself as a guard who can score the basketball on all three levels. While he got injured early in the season for the Cleveland Cavaliers this season, he did put up 24.3 PPG, 3.1 RPG, and 4.4 APG in the 2020-21 season.

There have been a lot of discussions about what the future holds for Collin Sexton. He will be a restricted free agent at the end of this season, and it is possible that another team could try to acquire him then. The Detroit Pistons were linked with him in a previous report.

Another team that could potentially try and acquire Collin Sexton is the New York Knicks. Evan Dammarell of Right Down Euclid has recently revealed that they are a “team worth watching” if Collin Sexton decides to test free agency and added that if the Knicks give him a contract the Cavaliers don’t want to match, then it would likely result in a sign-and-trade with some players heading back to the Cavaliers:

The Knicks overall are an interesting match for Sexton since, according to sources, he’s a player they’ve always coveted and is a team worth watching if he tests the waters of free agency. If New York were to sign him to an offer sheet that the Cavaliers weren’t comfortable matching, it would result in a sign and trade with the Knicks sending back a combination of contracts like Derrick Rose, Alec Burks or Nerlens Noel to match Sexton’s new deal. A mix of those players would help solve a lot of needs Cleveland currently has but, it’s also a bit underwhelming in a possible return for Sexton as well.

It remains to be seen if the New York Knicks will target Collin Sexton in this free agency, or if they go with other options. It is easy to see why they would want to try and acquire a talented scoring guard and add him to their young core.

Hopefully, we see Collin Sexton get signed to a good contract this free agency. While obviously there are some risks in signing him, his upside is definitely worth it for a lot of teams.
