John Collins is a talented big man, but he has been having a poor year for the Atlanta Hawks. The big man clearly needs a change of scenery to thrive, and this proposed trade could get him that.
A recent report from Jack Simone of Heavy shared a trade proposal from a Western Conference executive that would send John Collins to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for some of their young players.
Their youngsters haven’t quite panned out the way they had hoped, and in turn, they could look to attack the trade market. Sources who spoke to Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports suggested the idea that the Warriors could trade for Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins.
Here’s an outline of the proposed trade:
Warriors receive: John Collins
Hawks receive: James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, Donte DiVincenzo
“[The Warriors] could be looking at what is out there for their young guys now,” a Western Conference executive told Deveney. “It has not worked out for them the way they thought it would, and it was always a little bit of a risk there, trying to plug guys like Wiseman and Kuminga and Moses Moody into the rotation now. They’re always quiet about what they do, though, so no one can say for sure what the plan is there. I doubt they’d deal away both Kuminga and Wiseman, but there’s no other way to get back a big piece, just because of the contract, unless they do something like that.”
This trade could potentially be good for the Golden State Warriors, as it would get them a win-now contributor. However, giving up a talented prospect in James Wiseman and two elite perimeter defenders in Jonathan Kuminga and Donte DiVincenzo could be a tough ask for the Golden State Warriors.
The Golden State Warriors Have Also Been Linked With Myles Turner
The frontcourt for the Golden State Warriors has been a problem, and it is clear that the team is trying to improve in that area. Previously, they’ve been linked with Myles Turner.
The team had previously shopped Myles Turner for multiple deadlines, but when they landed Tyrese Haliburton from the Kings, they needed to give up Domantas Sabonis.
That may lead to a recommitment to Turner, who will be a free agent this summer. Still, plenty of teams have interest if the Pacers change course, including the Lakers, Clippers and Warriors.
There’s no doubt that Myles Turner would fit in the Golden State Warriors’ system, and we’ll see if they end up trading for him. He would likely be easier to get than John Collins due to financial reasons, and also due to his being on an expiring contract. The frontcourt isn’t the only part of the team that the Warriors are looking to make a change in, as they’ve also been linked to Gary Trent Jr. in recent memory.
Hopefully, we see the Golden State Warriors make a win-now move sooner rather than later. They can still be a good team with Stephen Curry back, and they have the talent to win the championship this year.
