Gary Trent Jr. is a solid 3 and D player who is currently a member of the Toronto Raptors. He is a solid complementary player who is capable of getting hot from beyond the arc.
There have been a number of reports that have suggested that the Toronto Raptors could look to move Gary Trent Jr. ahead of this year’s trade deadline. A recent report from Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report suggested that some contending teams, such as the Phoenix Suns, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Golden State Warriors, could be interested in adding him to their team.
But more realistically, the Raptors will fight to avoid the play-in, compete and answer their more essential questions later. If there’s one player who doesn’t stick through the deadline, it’s Trent.
Trent (almost 24) would fit with any team looking to add a wing scorer who can defend. The Suns, Lakers, Warriors, Hawks and Heat could be interested.
It makes sense that teams want a two-way player like Gary Trent Jr., and it will be interesting to see what the Toronto Raptors could receive for his services. They would likely want draft compensation in this scenario to try and help them retool around Scottie Barnes.
Other Toronto Raptors Players Are Also Commanding Trade Interest
There is no doubt that the Toronto Raptors are a team that has been mediocre this season, and perhaps the team could explore a rebuild. A recent report revealed that the Sacramento Kings are targeting Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby, and it is clear that teams are circling in case the Raptors decide to pull the plug on their current roster.
“Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus reported Sunday, citing sources, that the Kings are among four teams keeping an eye on Kuzma — along with the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns.”
“Sacramento has been interested in Kuzma in the past, as the 6-foot-9 forward was in the middle of trade rumors involving the Kings sending Buddy Hield to Los Angeles.”
“Anunoby, in his sixth season with the Toronto Raptors, is a defensive monster who also can put the ball in the basket. In 26 games this season, Anunoby is averaging 19.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 36.7 minutes. He currently leads the NBA with 62 total steals and is shooting 47.5 percent from the field. Anunoby is under contract through next season and has a $19.9 million player option for 2024-25.”
“Siakam, a teammate of Anunoby’s in Toronto, is off to a fantastic start this season averaging a career-high 25.3 points and 8.9 rebounds. His deal doesn’t expire until after the 2023-24 campaign.”
It remains to be seen what will end up happening in the future. Obviously, both Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby would give the Sacramento Kings an elite two-way player, and either could be the missing piece that makes them a truly good team.
Hopefully, though, we see the Toronto Raptors bounce back and get to a playoff position in the future. They clearly have a good amount of talent on the team, and we’ll see if they are able to turn things around.
