NBA Rumors: Warriors Could Land John Collins Using Their 2020 First-Round Pick

The Golden State Warriors didn’t have the best season this one, but that doesn’t mean they’re dominance in the NBA is over. The Dubs have a really good chance to come back stronger next year and they’re already planning their next moves to return to the top of the association.

After losing Kevin Durant in free agency last year, as well as Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson with injuries, it’s time for the Californians to make their return with the right pieces to compete in a stacked Western Conference. It’s been rumored that they will try to make a run at Giannis Antetokounmpo, but things could be different for them, getting different pieces that can still be helpful.

According to Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report, Collins would be a great player to land to restart the Warriors’ “dynasty on pause.” Swartz listed off blockbuster ideas for all 30 NBA teams, picking John Collins as a great addition to the Warriors’ roster.

Golden State could use its 2020 first-rounder to make this happen. Before the league was suspended in March, the Warriors had the worst record in the league, 15-50, so it’s highly probable they would get a high pick in this year’s draft. If the go to the draft, we’ll see high-profile guards like LaMelo Ball (Illawarra Hawks) and Anthony Edwards (Georgia), but the Dubs aren’t interesting in anybody for their backcourt, especially if they have to use a high draft pick.

Swartz says that Golden State should use that first-round pick and try to trade for a big man like Collins.

For Atlanta, getting a top pick in the draft means putting together one of the best young backcourts in the NBA with Trae Young.

Edwards would be a perfect fit—a dynamic scorer with size (6’5″, 225 pounds) who wouldn’t have to travel far from the University of Georgia to his new Atlanta home. A lineup of Young, Edwards, Cam Reddish, De’Andre Hunter and Clint Capela could be the best in the East in a few years.

He also adds that Kevin Huerter could be part of the deal, too, as he could be a great student for Klay Thompson. Huerter is the same size as Klay, and both players are known for their 3-pointers.

This season, Collins is averaging 21.6 points, 10.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks and shooting 40.1 percent from deep. If they need young talent, this could be their guy.
