Jordan Poole’s future with the Golden State Warriors continues to make headlines. Recent rumors suggest that the franchise might offer him a suitable contract and consider the option of trading him later.

This speculation comes in the middle of the team’s preseason games against the Washington Wizards in Tokyo, where Poole started in place of Klay Thompson.

The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami theorized that the team may look at the larger picture, offer the guard a decent contract, and then explore the possibility of trading him in the near future. With the rookie extension deadline slated for October 17, Kawakami opined that the front office may try to sign him sooner.

The piece also added that GM Bob Myers will be meeting with Poole’s camp once the team touches down after the Tokyo preseason contest.

The early prediction was that Poole could make an estimated $24 million per year, however, he also explained that the deal along with retaining free agents Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins will put the franchise well over $450 million, while also adding an additional $160 million to the total player expenses.

Poole On Contract Extension: I Have The Utmost Faith And Confidence That We’ll Work Something Out.”

On his part, Poole didn’t seem too concerned about how the situation eventually pans out. What he did hint was suiting up for the Warriors once more. Kawakami’s thoughts pretty much echo the same sentiment as well.

“We did what we needed to do last year. Got a championship as a team, and obviously, that’s something that’s out there, but I’m going to let my reps handle that. I have confidence that we’ll work something out. I’m just here to play basketball and excited to be back with the team. However, we go into the season is however we go in. I’m going to play my game, continue to be me, and put everything forth to help us win games, whatever the situation or circumstance is.”

It was a humdinger season for Poole last year as he averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in 76 games in 2021-22. In the absence of Thompson, he proved to be a force to reckon with and was key for some of the side’s wins. For now, there appears to be a plan, whether it comes to fruition remains to be seen.
