The Los Angeles Lakers are trying their very best to improve their roster this season and avoid repeating the abysmal 2021-22 NBA season. So far, the franchise has made some moves in the offseason, but none of them can be categorized as blockbusters.
In fact, Lakers fans aren’t at all happy with their team’s free agency signings so far this season. It is obvious that the Lakers need to add a big name to the team in order to regain the trust of fans.
One move that could have such an impact is if the Lakers complete the rumored Kyrie Irving trade. It would help the team get rid of Russell Westbrook’s huge contract, and at the same time, the Lakers will become one of the top contenders in the league.
But things have kind of stopped in that department. Well, thankfully, the Lakers are still trying their best to get other quality players. Earlier, it was revealed that the Lakers’ alternative was to go after Eric Gordon or Buddy Hield if the Kyrie Irving deal falls out.
Following that rumor, trusted NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski has revealed the team is now in contact with the Houston Rockets and the Indiana Pacers about Eric Gordon and Buddy Hield, respectively.
(Starts at 1:36):
“They’ve looked at other deals. They’ve continued, I know, to check on Eric Gordon in Houston. That’s certainly a player that interests them. Buddy Hield in Indiana. Different kinds of guards. Shooting guards. Certainly both of those players, former Rob Pelinka clients.
Of course, the Lakers would prefer to get Kyrie Irving. Despite all his shenanigans off the court, he is one of the best players in his position in the league right now.
If that deal falls out, they have prepared backup options. After all, one way or another, they need to add guards who can be a threat from the outside and knock three-pointers consistently. Otherwise, it will just be a repeat of the previous season for the Lakers.
