Bradley Beal finally might be freed from the Washington Wizards and get a chance to use his scoring prowess to lead a contender to a title, with the Miami Heat emerging as early favorites.

The Athletic’s Fred Katz says that Beal has had Miami at the top of his list of possible future teams for years now.

“Bradley Beal has had an eye on the Miami Heat for years. The three-time All-Star has mulled over his future time and time again over the past few summers, even if his decision has always been to return to the Washington Wizards, the only organization he’s played for during his 11 NBA seasons. In those moments, according to sources, the Heat have consistently stood above the rest of the league. If Beal had a formal list, which he never has before, then Miami would have been right there at the top of it.”

Beal had a down year last season and averaged 23.2 points, 5.4 assists, and 3.9 rebounds while playing just 50 games. The Heat are coming off a Finals run and could be heavily boosted by the presence of Beal’s natural scoring ability. It’d be an upgrade over Tyler Herro, who didn’t play for most of the Heat’s 2023 Finals run.

Should The Heat Take The Plunge?

The good thing with whichever team trades for Beal is that they likely won’t have to pay through the nose for assets. Beal’s no-trade clause gives him the right to pick the destination and the package the Wizards receive for him, basically meaning he has full control over his destiny and what his future team gives up to get him.

It’s unlikely that he’ll try and force the Wizards into accepting the worst possible offer, but future picks won’t be likely in a trade for a team where Beal really wants to go. The Heat don’t have many future picks but have sizable contracts right now that could be moved in exchange for Beal or even both Beal and Damian Lillard if they tried to.

To maximize their title window with an edging Jimmy Butler, acquiring Beal for a good price seems like a no-brainer that Miami will likely jump on to execute. They’ll have competition from the Knicks, Kings, and Celtics.
