NBA Rumors: Timberwolves Want To Trade For Clint Capela

The Minnesota Timberwolves are a team that made the first round this season, via the play-in tournament. There’s no doubt that this season was a good building block for them, and perhaps they can make some additions to their roster and become a true force in the Western Conference.

Shams Charania of The Athletic has recently revealed that the Minnesota Timberwolves “have discussed deals around veteran centers” with other teams. Clint Capela was listed as one of the potential targets.

The Timberwolves have discussed deals around veteran centers, including Atlanta’s Clint Capela, sources said.

Adding Clint Capela would benefit the Minnesota Timberwolves in a variety of ways. There’s no doubt that he could be a good defensive anchor for the team as a starter, or potentially back up Karl-Anthony Towns as a sixth man coming off the bench. A Cling Capela- Karl-Anthony Towns frontcourt, though, would definitely work out, as Towns provides elite spacing while Capela would make up for his defensive shortcomings.

It remains to be seen what sort of deal the Minnesota Timberwolves would hypothetically make for Clint Capela. They have notably put D’Angelo Russell on the trade block, though it’s hard to see a deal involving the two players go through without other pieces. It is quite possible that the Atlanta Hawks end up trading Clint Capela elsewhere though, and he has notably been linked as part of a possible package for Utah Jazz star center Rudy Gobert.

The Minnesota Timberwolves will be in a solid position even if they do not make a trade, as their core can clearly have a positive record and get to the playoffs. Hopefully, Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns continue to develop and grow, and it’ll be interesting to see just how far the Minnesota Timberwolves can go in the next few years.
