The Phoenix Suns are a contending team right now, and there is no doubt that they are a team looking to win immediately. Chris Paul is in the latter stages of his career, and there is urgency and pressure for the team to get back to the NBA Finals and get a championship.

The team has fallen short of winning on the highest stage over the past two years, and it is clear that the Phoenix Suns could use a difference-maker that can help them get over the hump.

A recent report from Shams Charania of The Athletic revealed that the Phoenix Suns are considering adding some forwards to their roster. The names mentioned were Harrison Barnes, Kyle Kuzma, and KJ Martin.

The Suns have a handful of first-rounders to move, but given the team’s impending ownership change, it’s also uncertain how many future assets the current regime can move. In addition, the Suns expressed interest in forwards such as Sacramento’s Harrison Barnes, Washington’s Kyle Kuzma and Houston’s KJ Martin, league sources have said.

All three of those players would give the Phoenix Suns some two-way play, with Harrison Barnes and Kyle Kuzma in particular both showing that they can be complementary scorers next to stars. Two-way forwards are extremely valuable when it comes to winning championships, and the Phoenix Suns would immediately be a better team if they were to acquire any of these trade targets.

The Phoenix Suns Could End Up Making Other Moves

There’s no doubt that the Phoenix Suns have other moves lined up in case they are unable to acquire those three forwards. It was recently reported that the Phoenix Suns also have some trade interest in John Collins.

The Hawks have opened up preliminary trade discussions around forward John Collins, as interested teams inquire, league sources tell The Athletic. The Suns are a team showing desire in Collins, those sources have added, but they appear uninclined to take on the long-term money of Collins, who is in the second season of a five-year, $125 million contract.

John Collins could potentially be a good addition for the Phoenix Suns, and a frontcourt featuring him and Deandre Ayton could be solid at protecting the rim. John Collins is also a decent floor spacer, shooting 36.8% from 3PT range for his career.

It remains to be seen which move the Phoenix Suns will enact in the future. On their end, they have also been looking to move Jae Crowder, and perhaps we’ll see them retool their roster closer to the trade deadline.
