Malcolm Brogdon is a veteran point guard that currently plays for the Indiana Pacers. He is a solid playmaker and shooter. This season, Malcolm Brogdon averaged 19.1 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 5.9 APG.
It seems as though Malcolm Brogdon’s play has gotten him some interest from other franchises. Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report has revealed that league personnel have “linked” Malcolm Brogdon to the Knicks, adding that he has “been mentioned” as a backup option “for the Knicks to plug their hole at starting point guard”.
The Knicks have also been linked to Brogdon in recent days by league personnel. New York is known to have interest in trading up from the No. 11 pick, with a perceived target of Purdue combo guard Jaden Ivey. But if New York doesn’t jump up the lottery order—league executives don’t forecast such a deal—and determines it is out of the running for free agent-to-be Jalen Brunson, Brogdon has been mentioned as one of several potential backup options for the Knicks to plug their hole at starting point guard.
From the Indiana Pacers’ perspective, it makes sense to move Malcolm Brogdon to give point guard Tyrese Haliburton full control of the offense. The Indiana Pacers are currently undergoing a rebuild, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone if they choose to move veterans to develop young talent.
For the New York Knicks, Malcolm Brogdon would provide another veteran for the team. There’s no doubt that he could help make life easier for RJ Barrett and Julius Randle, and having him as a floor general would lessen the offensive responsibilities that the two have.
It remains to be seen if the New York Knicks do in fact trade for Malcolm Brogdon. They have been linked with other guards such as Collin Sexton, and we’ll see who they end up getting to fill their guard vacancy going forward.
