The NBA has done an amazing job at keeping things afloat in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. But now, as the crisis fades, the league is looking to solve a number of other prevalent issues, first of which might be the current state of the offensive game.
“The NBA has issues to modify with the game itself as well,” writes ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. “Most agree the product has shifted too far in the offense’s favor, that the scoring is unnaturally inflated. In the offseason, the NBA plans to address the unnatural shooting motions of star players like James Harden and Trae Young that get foul calls under the rules in the NBA — but would get eye rolls on the playground.
As it comes out of survival mode for two years, the NBA can start looking at bigger decisions for the game — implementing the midseason tournament, keeping the play-in and so much else.”
It’s no secret that many of the NBA’s top stars take advantage of the system by shooting in such a way as to get trips to the foul line.
In many of these occasions, there is little to no contact made by the defender, and it’s simply a gimmick by the shooter to get some free points.
It has been a major gripe of the community for some time now, and for good reason. It’s boring to watch, takes no skill to do, and is simply a cheap way of manipulating the game.
It’s good to see the NBA finally address this glaring issue, and hopefully they continue to take steps to improve the game.
