The Dallas Mavericks have heavily depended on Kyrie Irving to keep the team competitive after deciding to move Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. All Mavericks wins since February have been heavily influenced by Irving’s performance, but the franchise will have to get used to playing without him, as Doncic’s replacement, Anthony Davis, picked up an injury in his debut.
During the Mavericks matchup against the Sacramento Kings, Irving banged knees with DeMar DeRozan before going up for a layup. However, Irving lost his balance as his knee visibly buckled on camera.

Irving would also ice the two free throws he received on this play, as the crowd chanted MVP at the potential last regular season contest we see Irving in this season. Anthony Davis and other teammates were quick to help Irving return to the locker room.

Chris Haynes has already provided a medical update on Irving, ruling him out from a reappearance in this game and declaring his injury is a knee sprain.
“Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving (left knee sprain) will be out the remainder of the game vs Sacramento Kings.”
Irving was averaging 25.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.7 assists this season. He’s averaged 30.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists in February due to his increased importance as the only perimeter creator on the Mavericks.
The team is also currently without any of their rotational centers and recently lost PJ Washington to an ankle injury.
If it’s just a sprain, Kyrie will likely miss a few weeks before attempting a return later in the season. If it’s even remotely as bad as it looked, a muscle tear in his knee could end his season and the Mavericks’ hopes of contention.
