The Dallas Mavericks were able to keep things together to secure a 121-119 win against the Oklahoma City Thunder in a rematch of their Western Conference semifinal series. Playing without Luka Doncic, the rest of the Mavs built a decent lead, and despite almost giving it away in the final moments, the Mavericks were able to pull off a big win.

P.J. Washington had one of his best games in a Mavericks jersey tonight, as he put up 27 points (7-13 FG), 17 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Kyrie Irving proved his mettle as a leader tonight, scoring 23 points (9-18 FG), with one rebound and six assists to help the team around him.

The Mavericks had to endure a tough OKC team tonight, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander having yet another big night with 36 points (13-19 FG), eight rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks, including a big shot late in the fourth quarter that had all Mavs fans nervous about a potential comeback.

Mavericks fans were thrilled about their team’s overall performance tonight, with many considering it one of their best outings this season. Kyrie Irving and P.J. Washington got many of the plaudits. However, a lot of fans were critical of Klay Thompson after yet another abysmal outing.

“Mavericks finally playing good basketball, I can’t believe my eyes.”

“One of the best games of PJ Washington’s Maverick tenure.”

I’m telling y’all… The Dallas Mavericks are a different team when PJ Washington is on the floor.”

“KYRIE ANDREW IRVING, YOU GOTTA BE FREAKING ME MAN!?!”

“Name a more demoralizing shot in basketball than a Kyrie Irving stare-down three.”

It is just an absolute joy to watch Kyrie Irving play basketball for my favorite team.”

“Is Klay Thompson the worst basketball player ever?”

“Bro I’m so happy the Lakers avoided this bullet named Klay Thompson, he not worth 50MM kid garbage.”

“Mavericks just beat the #1 seed in the West without Luka.”

“Jason Kidd, you need to have a serious conversation with the Mavericks about this constant 4th quarter bs.”

Thompson had yet another poor performance tonight, putting up just five points (1-11 FG), three rebounds, two steals and one block. Thompson didn’t set up any teammates with assists and went 1-8 from beyond the arc.

While Mavericks fans will be happy with the big win, there will be some questions asked about the team’s defense and structure in the fourth quarter. At one point, the Mavericks led the Thunder by 13 points. But they seemed to capitulate late in the game. And after a late three from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, it looked like the Mavericks were going to give away the game.

The Mavs now hold a record 7-7 in the Western Conference, which keeps them firm at the 10th seed. Many expected the Mavericks to be a contender this season, ranking at the top of the conference. But so far, that hasn’t been the case at all. Things need to improve in Dallas, as their stars have shown they cannot carry their team every night.
