Michael Malone spoke after the Denver Nuggets‘ 132-121 win over the Portland Trail Blazers about Nikola Jokic. He noted that while the NBA has a lot of really good players, Nikola Jokic is perhaps the only great player in the NBA. His statistics and his consistency over the season have been nothing but sensational, and Malone wants to make sure he isn’t being taken for granted.

“Somebody showed me a stat the other day that says Nikola Jokic’s stats through three quarters, no one else in the NBA playing four quarters. Just think about that. There are really good players in this league. There’s one great player in my eyes. What Nikola does to be top-three in points, rebounds, and assists, and top-five in steals, the efficiency is just incredible.”

“That’s why I mentioned it earlier… Nikola is incredible. I don’t know what else to say. That guy is just incredible. What’s most rewarding about it and being around him is that he doesn’t want or care to get any credit. I’m sure he’s really looking forward to going to San Francisco.”

“He’s excited about that. Please, let’s never take Nikola’s greatness for granted. We are witnessing history every single night. I don’t take it for granted. He is incredible. And I’m really, really fortunate I get the chance to coach him for 10 years now.”

Nikola Jokic had a great game last night, even if it did get overshadowed by Jamal Murray‘s 55-point performance. He put up 26 points (11-20 FG), 15 rebounds, 10 assists, and two steals. This is just the latest in some incredible outings from the three-time and reigning MVP of the league.

This season, Jokic is averaging a triple-double with 29.8 points, 12.6 rebounds, 10.2 assists, 1.8 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game while shooting 57.7% from the field, 45.0% from beyond the arc, and 82.3% from the free-throw line. These numbers are good enough for Jokic to win a historic fourth MVP trophy at the end of this season.

The Nuggets currently have a 36-19 record in the Western Conference, and sit third in the Western Conference. With their win last night, they extended their winning streak to eight in a row, the longest in the NBA with the Oklahoma City Thunder right behind them with seven straight wins.

Jokic and the Nuggets are right back where they should be after a shaky start to the NBA season. It appears Michael Malone has gotten things right after a difficult opening part of the season. And the Nuggets are now flying. They will be hoping to make a big playoff push in the coming weeks to end the season with 50+ wins for the third season in a row.
