NBA Rumors: Rockets Are Interested In Kevin Durant And Devin Booker

The 28-33 Phoenix Suns have been arguably the most disappointing team in this 2024-25 season, and some changes are expected to be made this offseason. Kevin Durant is likely to be on the way out, and NBA insider Sam Amick stated on FanDuel TV’s Run It Back that the Houston Rockets are interested in him and Devin Booker.

“It is now opening the door for anything and everything to be a possibility in Phoenix and for some of the other teams around the league, that’s pretty exciting,” Amick stated. “We know the Houstons of the world have been looking at Devin Booker and KD. He is certainly going to have a market. We’ll see what ends up happening with him this summer.”

Before the start of this season, it was reported that the Rockets were targeting Booker and Durant. It appeared they had no chance of landing the latter then, but things have changed now.

The Suns were open to moving Durant before this year’s deadline and even reportedly had a deal in place with the Golden State Warriors. Durant, however, shut down that blockbuster trade to the Warriors as he wasn’t interested in a reunion. He would have been fine with going elsewhere, though, and a move to the Rockets could be in the cards after this season.

Durant and the Suns are expected to work together on a trade that would send him to a contender. The Rockets, who have a 37-24 record this season, could well become one if they land the 15-time All-Star, who is averaging 26.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game this season.

With the Rockets controlling a couple of the Suns’ draft picks, including the 2025 first-round pick, they might be in the best position to pull off a trade. We came up with a mock trade that sees Durant end up in Houston for a massive haul.

As for Booker, a move seems unlikely. According to Suns insider Gerald Bourguet, the team is not going to be trading Booker.

“To piggyback off what Shams said on ESPN, multiple sources have told me that barring a playoff run, everything is on the table for the Suns this summer, with one exception: ‘Devin Booker is never being traded.'”

Booker, who is averaging 26.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.9 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game in 2024-25, is the face of the franchise, and Bourguet believes the only way he gets traded is if he forces a move. There has been no indication thus far that he wants to leave Phoenix, so the chances of him not being a Sun next season are low.

Booker would be a better fit for the Rockets from a timeline perspective, though. They are a young team and would be better off landing a 28-year-old star who still has many years left in him than a 36-year-old Durant. Any one of these two would be great acquisitions at the end of the day, though, and it will be interesting to see if the Rockets are able to pull off a move.
