The Miami Heat are having a tough season, watching franchise cornerstone Jimmy Butler have the messiest falling out with the franchise in recent memory. We’re waiting for Butler to be traded away, as it seems unlikely he’ll represent the Heat on the court again.
This situation has to be tough on Jimmy’s teammates. Bam Adebayo commented on the same to Andscape and implored the front office not to let this season be ruined by what’s happening, especially for the young stars on the roster.
“We can’t let this season go to s— for the young guys. I look at ’em because young guys are trying to get a job. Guys are trying to be something in this league and it’s like you can’t let the outside noise distract that. But for me, it’s really getting everybody at the same page and understanding that we can still win.”
Adeabyo spoke about his personal relationship with Butler still being intact as he understands the business reasons behind what’s happening right now. However, he still hopes that the franchise prioritizes a deal that leads to more winning.
“You understand that his business at the end of the day, and I’ll leave it at that. J.B. [Butler] is one of my guys. So, for me, we give him space and we let him and management handle it, get involved in that. We worry about getting these wins because at the end of the day, whatever happens with him and the management, somebody still got to play these games. You still have to go out there and win. That’s the best thing for us to get our minds off of that situation. Go out here and get some wins.”
The Miami Heat are digging in and seem certain that they will not trade Jimmy Butler under duress. The team hasn’t found an appropriate trade offer so far through his seven-game suspension and is now considering extending it so that they don’t have to pay his salary for more games this season.
Butler is away from the franchise currently and it doesn’t look like he’ll be rejoining them if the Heat are allowed by the NBPA to continue suspending Butler. The current trade offers for the star are extremely underwhelming and the Heat seem determined to get good value out of trading Butler, even if it means waiting until the summer.
The league won’t allow the Heat to not pay the dollars on Butler’s guaranteed contract, no matter how they justify it. It goes against the spirit of the CBA to hold him out of games, not pay him, and not trade him. If the Heat are allowed to maximize the positives of this situation, why not Butler?
This is bound to drag on till at least the trade deadline and if Butler isn’t moved by then, we might see some major issues plaguing the Heat’s capacity for success this season.
