Jimmy Butler recently took his off-court passion to a new level by opening the first brick-and-mortar BigFace Coffee shop in Miami’s Design District. The venture marks a significant milestone in Butler’s entrepreneurial journey, which began in the NBA Bubble of 2020, where he famously charged his teammates $20 per cup of coffee.

During the COVID-restricted NBA Bubble, Butler capitalized on the lack of coffee options by starting a makeshift coffee business from his hotel room. What began as a side hustle evolved into a full-fledged passion project. By 2021, Butler had officially launched BigFace Coffee as an online brand, showcasing his dedication to premium coffee culture.

Butler’s commitment to the craft is evident in his relentless pursuit of coffee excellence. He traveled to coffee farms in Costa Rica to learn about the business and once spent $65,000 on 1,000 pounds of premium El Salvador coffee beans.

His passion didn’t stop at sourcing beans—he also studied specialty coffee-making techniques, striving to perfect his craft. In October 2021, BigFace Coffee expanded with pop-up shops in New York City and Miami, and even became the official coffee sponsor for ATP and WTA tennis events.

On December 6, 2024, Butler celebrated the grand opening of the first BigFace Coffee shop in Miami’s Design District. The store offers an inviting space where customers can enjoy expertly crafted coffee and pastries, either indoors or on the outdoor patio. Prices are surprisingly accessible, ranging from $4 for an espresso to $10 for a pour-over. While these prices are far from the $20 cups he sold in the NBA Bubble, they reflect his commitment to providing high-quality coffee experiences.

At the store’s opening, Butler shared his thoughts with local media, calling the moment “surreal” and expressing gratitude for the community that supported him throughout his journey. The event was attended by notable figures, including DJ Khaled, Heat teammate Kevin Love, and NBA legend Carmelo Anthony.

Butler’s ambitions extend beyond his Miami storefront. He has expressed a desire to craft a $100 specialty cup of coffee, further underscoring his commitment to excellence in the coffee industry. His venture is more than just a business—it’s a reflection of his personality and passion, encapsulating his drive to excel in every endeavor.

In a 2021 interview, Butler joked that his post-NBA plans included relaxing at one of his coffee shops in Miami. Now, that dream is a reality, proving that his entrepreneurial spirit matches his competitive drive on the basketball court.

As Butler continues to lead the Miami Heat on the court, his BigFace Coffee brand is brewing a legacy of its own. From the NBA Bubble to the streets of Miami, Jimmy Butler has turned his love for coffee into a thriving enterprise, showcasing the same dedication and determination that has defined his basketball career.

Whether you’re a Heat fan or a coffee connoisseur, BigFace Coffee promises an experience that embodies Butler’s commitment to quality and connection.
