Renowned sports analyst Shannon Sharpe has taken over the headlines this week after a mysterious video went live on his Instagram story. The video in question, which includes over a minute of unedited footage, features a blank wall with moans and other sexual sounding noises in the background.

Since nobody is actually seen in the video, we can’t confirm who is making the sounds or if it was even real at all and not some kind of AI-generated experiment. But Sharpe has since broken his silence on the controversy and offered his own explanation for what happened on his account.
“Beware my Instagram was hacked this morning, my team and I are working vigorously to figure this out,” wrote Sharpe on IG.

While it’s not unheard of for these things to happen, it’s hard to understand how things played out like this. Many fans are wondering why a “hacker” would resort to posting this and (if it’s a real video) how Sharpe could mistakenly allow one of his sexual encounters to be recorded without his knowledge.

We heard enough to know that there was some kind of sexual activity going on in the video and, if so, then it’s a bad look for Sharpe to let it get posted online for the whole world to discover. ESPN, after all, is a family network and Sharpe’s employment with them means that he has to comply with all of their company policies, including those related to social media.
While no actions were seen in the video, the audio is proof enough of what was happening and there are many both inside and outside ESPN who would consider it inappropriate. Former NBA star Paul Pierce was fired by the same company not long ago for posting himself at an adult party on Instagram, complete with women, drinks, and a full-on gambling session.
For Shannon, this latest ordeal comes while his ESPN deal is still fresh. After a long and successful career in the NFL, Sharpe began his television tenure at FOX Sports on the hit morning show, ‘Undisputed.’ As co-host with Skip Bayless, Sharpe became a popular name in American sports media and his mix of comedy and logic during arguments never failed to capture the fans’ attention.
After a falling out with Bayless, Sharpe left Undisputed until he eventually struck a deal with ESPN. The former football star is now locked into a multi-year contract with the network and is a regular on First Take with Stephen A. Smith and Molly Qerim.
With no way to disprove Shannon’s claims of being hacked, it’s unlikely that he will receive any disciplinary action from ESPN. Since he wasn’t actually seen in the video, there’s no way to prove that it was his voice in the recording.
For now, it seems that Sharpe will get off with no consequences but this is one incident that will not be quickly forgotten by the fans. The video is weird, truly bizarre, and out of nowhere for such a well-respected member of the media. For his sake, he better hope something similar never happens again.
