The Zion Williamson saga has run all season long and many had assumed that we will not see him play this season. However, there has been a new development that may make the Pelicans a big threat heading into the play-in tournament.

Former MLB player Mikie Mahtook has reported that his sources have told him that Zion is ramping up for a return to the court as soon as next week after the Pelicans complete their current road trip. The news was then re-shared by The Pelicans Report, a verified source for news on the Pelicans with the website having relationships with the players on the team.

They accurately reported Zion being back in training, after which videos were shared of him dunking. So, if this report has the merit previous reports have had, this could be massive for the Pelicans.

“Our sources say that he was supposed to play 3 on 3 games but has skipped that and started playing 5 on 5 practice games and exhibitions. The Pelicans are on a road trip right now. What our source says is that when the Pelicans come back from the road trip, Zion Williamson will be playing basketball for the Pelicans next week… He’s going to be activated and be playing basketball next week.”

The Pelicans have managed to be in the position they are in without Zion, with the trade deadline deal for C.J. McCollum making a massive difference to the team. However, if the Pels get the Zion we last saw, they will be an incredibly challenging play-in matchup with Zion, CJ, and Brandon Ingram all on the floor.

Hopefully, this report is true as Zion is an incredible talent for his age and should be on the floor rather than have this be a lost season in his career.
