The NBA, now more than ever, has become one of the most popular sporting leagues in the world. The NBA houses the best players in the world, and with basketball becoming increasingly popular around the globe, more fans are coming around to the NBA. And one global superstar from a different sport recently gave his all-time starting 5.

Neymar Jr., considered by many to be one of the best soccer players in the world today, was asked in a Portuguese interview with NBA Brazil to name his all-time starting 5. Neymar named Stephen Curry, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Shaquille O’Neal as his all-time starting 5, and named Jimmy Butler as the 6th man on the team.

(From 8:43 mark)

Neymar specifically mentioned that Jimmy deserves to be on this list. “Jimmy needs to be on this list because he is making history”. The friendship between Jimmy Butler and Neymar Jr. was on full display throughout these playoffs, with Neymar even coming to support Butler during the NBA Finals.

Neymar Jr.’s Starting 5 Is Unbeatable

One could make the argument that Neymar Jr.’s starting 5 would be absolutely invincible. Michael Jordan, Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquille O’Neal are five of the greatest players in NBA history, with an argument to be made for each player as a top-5 or top-3 all-time NBA player. Putting these players, in their prime, on the same team, would make an unstoppable team.

Michael Jordan and Neymar’s relationship has been one primarily built on their respective brands. At one point, Neymar Jr. was one of the faces of Nike, and it was his work with Nike that enticed the Jordan brand into a collaboration. They released a shoe together and even facilitated a partnership between Jordan and Neymar’s team, Paris Saint-Germain.

Neymar Jr. and Jimmy Butler were spotted hanging out together ahead of Game 3 of the NBA Finals in Miami. While Neymar was there to support his friend, Jimmy Butler and the Heat were not able to overcome a dominant Denver Nuggets team to win the NBA championship.
