Nic Claxton has become one of the best defenders in the league on the Brooklyn Nets. On a team that many didn’t think would be great defensively, Claxton has made a huge difference. And while the Nets have some bigger objectives in terms of winning the NBA championship, Nic Claxton has some goals of his own.

At just 23, Nic Claxton doesn’t have much of a ceiling in terms of how great he can be. He has put his name in conversations for the Defensive Player Of the Year award earlier in the season, and he recently did so again. Talking to Michael Scotto, Claxton went as far as to claim that he should be the frontrunner for the award this season.

“I think I should be No. 1. I’m defending one through five and neck and neck as the leading shot blocker. I’m doing everything on the defensive end for the team anchoring the defense every single night. I think I should be right there. Definitely.”

It’s safe to say that confidence is not something Nic Claxton is lacking. But then again, having teammates like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving would do wonders for any player trying to define themselves in the league. But Claxton is his own man, as much as he also believes in his team’s defensive prowess and improvement.

Nic Claxton Opened Up On The Brooklyn Nets’ Defensive Capabilities

The Brooklyn Nets are 6th in the NBA in team defense if all the general stats are looked at. That’s vastly better than most people would have expected them to be, and it’s something Nic Claxton also spoke about in conversation with Scotto.

“I think we’ve been doing a lot better, for sure. The numbers speak for themselves. I think the rebounding piece is going to be big for us, and that’s big for myself too. It can be tough sometimes when you’re switching out and guarding, but I think the defensive rebounding part will be big for us.”

When it comes to defensive rebounding, the Nets are 16th in the league, which is what the center is talking about. But if he can continue to improve and the team carries on buying in, then there is no telling just how good they could be. The Nets have the offense to win it all, if they can get the defense up, too, it’s hard to say which team would beat them.
