Nikola Jokic is the leading candidate for the NBA MVP award, and for good reason. The Denver Nuggets are 3rd in the Western Conference, and Jokic is currently putting up jaw-dropping numbers, averaging 26.4 PPG, 10.9 RPG, and 8.4 APG. Nikola Jokic has a genuine claim as the best passing big man of all time and has been the most consistent superstar this season in terms of availability and performance.
Despite there being valid reasons for Nikola Jokic being MVP, there are media members who aren’t happy with him winning it. Nick Wright has recently gone on air and said that Nikola Jokic would be the worst player to win it in the last 35 years.

When you look at the league of MVPs over history, I say this with respect to Jokic, historically speaking, he would be the worst one we’ve had in 35 years. Chris Paul wouldn’t be. Chris Paul is an all-time great player… But when you look at who’s won the MVPs? Oh it’s Giannis, it’s Steph, it’s LeBron, it’s Durant, it’s Rose pre-injury… and then Nikola Jokic. Oh okay. That must have been a weird season.
That is a take that will clearly receive some backlash, and for good reason. Nikola Jokic is leading his team to the third seed in the Western Conference and with Jamal Murray’s injury, he has had to take on even more responsibility. Even if we disregard statistics, Nikola Jokic has been available, and he has been insanely good. In a season that has been defined by players missing time, Nikola Jokic is a high-performing superstar that has missed none.
