Nick Young has taken yet another shot at D’Angelo Russell, as he seemingly has no intention of ending the feud between them. With Russell stating he is a gangster, who has nothing to cry about, in response to claims that he was crying at the end of the game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Young called him a b***h.

There was a time when Young and Russell were fairly close when they were teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers, but an infamous incident in 2016 ruined their relationship for good. At the time, Young was engaged to rapper Iggy Azalea, and Russell secretly recorded him admitting that he had cheated on her.

While recording him saying that would have been bad enough, the video somehow ended up being leaked online as well. Russell claimed he had no idea how it happened, but the damage was done. Azalea split with Young and Russell got the reputation of being a snitch.

It was reported at the time that Russell started to be isolated by his teammates after the incident. No one felt he could be trusted and just a year later in 2017, Russell would be traded to the Brooklyn Nets.

Magic Johnson, who was the president of basketball operations for the Lakers at the time, would admit in 2019 that the video incident certainly played a part in them deciding to move on from Russell.

He was the second pick of the 2015 NBA Draft, but that incident and concerns about his leadership qualities meant L.A. had no issues in parting ways with him. Young would also leave the Lakers in free agency in 2017 and just a year later, was out of the league entirely.

They say time heals all wounds but this one doesn’t show any signs of healing for Young. He has taken a fair few swipes at his former teammate over the years, going as far as to call him the most annoying player he ever played with.

Young also picked Russell as the NBA player he would want to box, for obvious reasons. It would certainly be a bout that would draw a lot of eyeballs if it did happen, but it obviously won’t.

Russell seemed to take a shot at Young over that as well, as he indicated that using his name was helping some individuals to stay relevant. It won’t be a surprise if he does respond to Young calling him out the way he did here as well.

D’Angelo Russell Is Balling For The Lakers

D’Angelo, of course, ended up returning to the Lakers in 2023 as part of the Russell Westbrook trade. Things were going great initially, but the 27-year-old found himself in trade talks as he and the team struggled in this 2023-24 campaign.

Russell has managed to turn things around recently, though. Since he was reinserted into the starting lineup, the one-time All-Star has averaged 27.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 0.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game. In that time, he has also shot 53.5% from the field and 51.0% from beyond the arc.

Would this good run convince the Lakers to decide against parting ways with him? That remains to be seen. L.A. currently has a 22-23 record this season, and if they feel they absolutely have to make a move, Russell still seems to be the one mostly likely to head out.
