The 2023 FIBA World Cup is underway right now, and teams from around the world are trying to compete and get a medal in the tournament. France was one of the better teams in the tournament from a talent standpoint, but the team was shockingly eliminated by Latvia in the group stages of the competition.

After the game, Los Angeles Clippers forward Nicolas Batum offered a brutal take on France’s elimination. He claimed that he is “ashamed” to wear the jersey, and added that the team “let a lot of people down”.

“I’ve never been ashamed with this jersey, but this is the first time I’m ashamed,” Batum said, per Jack Maloney of CBS Sports. “I’m scared to go home because we let a lot of people down. A lot of people believed in us to do something special. We didn’t do it.”

There is no doubt that this is a disappointing outcome for all the French fans who supported the team in the FIBA World Cup. Aside from Nicolas Batum, the team also has some other NBA players such as Evan Fournier and Rudy Gobert, and it is clear that they have the talent to go far in the tournament.

Luckily, the 2024 Olympics will happen next year, and France will still be good enough to be a competitive team then. Hopefully, we see Batum, Fournier, and Gobert suit up for them then, and perhaps we’ll even see phenom Victor Wembanyama join the Olympics squad as well.

France Got Destroyed By Canada In Their Opening Game Of The FIBA World Cup

In the opening game of the FIBA World Cup, France was Destroyed by Canada, losing 95-65. After the game, Evan Fournier admitted that France got their a** kicked by Canada in the FIBA World Cup. It is clear that the team simply wasn’t cohesive during the tournament despite having a number of great NBA players on the roster.

Rudy Gobert is widely regarded as the best player on the French team right now, and there’s no doubt that he was still a defensive stalwart for the French squad. However, he also struggled against Canada, only getting 8 points but putting in 4 turnovers.

Perhaps the game against Canada was a sign of things to come for France. Hopefully, they learn from this 2023 FIBA World Cup campaign and come back as a more cohesive squad for the 2024 Olympics.
