Nikola Jokic has been the face of the Denver Nuggets for the last few years, and many view him as the best passing big man that the game has seen. He won MVP during the 2020-21 season, and he has shown no signs of dropping off this year. Currently, Nikola Jokic is putting up an astounding stat line: 25.5 PPG, 13.8 RPG, and 8.0 APG.

As of right now, Nikola Jokic’s contract is set to expire after the conclusion of the 2022-23 season. However, it seems as though the Denver Nuggets are not planning to let that happen. Nikola Jokic’s agent Misko Raznatovic has recently revealed that Nikola Jokic “is expected” to sign a supermax extension with the team this summer. Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews relayed the news.

Nikola Jokic’s agent Misko Raznatovic confirmed that his client is expected to sign a supermax extension with the Denver Nuggets in 2022 NBA free agency.

“According to our expectations, it should be signed this summer. The extension of the maximum amount, what he obviously deserved,” Raznatovic said on the URBONUS podcast.

Jokic became eligible for a supermax contract in 2022 or 2023 after winning the MVP award last summer.

Per Bobby Marks of ESPN, Jokic’s supermax extension in 2022 is projected to be the largest contract in NBA history, a total of $241M (based on a salary cap of $121.5M).

The last time Jokic signed a 5-year, $148M extension with Nuggets in 2018, he just exchanged emails with his agent. This time, if everything goes according to plan, Misko Raznatovic would like to organize a big party.

There is no doubt that Nikola Jokic deserves the extension. He is the best player on the Denver Nuggets, and he has kept the team in playoff contention this year, even though he has missed co-star Jamal Murray this whole season.

Nikola Jokic has previously stated that he’d like to emulate Giannis Antetokounmpo and potentially win a championship with a small market team in Denver. Hopefully, he is able to achieve that goal in the future, and his talent suggests that he’ll be a force for years to come.
