The NBA is currently witnessing a bright crop of young players who are looking to establish themselves as the future of the league. With the league in search of a new face of the league, Paul George has compared a young Pacers player to NBA and Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade.

During an episode of his podcast, Paul George talked about Pacers star Bennedict Mathurin, comparing him to D-Wade.

“I like Bennedict Mathurin. Tough… He tough, like, he a dog. He got that dog in him. I remember watching the clip, I think they were getting blown out but he was playing hard as f*ck. And the other team is like “Bro, like y’all losing, chill’. He’s like ‘bro, it’s still time on the clock, like I’m going to play this sh*t out’.”

“And that stuck with me, watching that clip… For an organization like Indiana, that’s what they need. Players like him, those dogs. To me, he’s got like a shade of D-Wade in him. That midrange game, tough, athletic, strong body, savvy, attacking the basket. He’s got a little shade of D-Wade to him.”

George was clearly impressed by the young star and the fighting spirit he brings to the Indiana Pacers. Being compared to Dwyane Wade is high praise, but also places the weight of expectation on Mathurin going forward, and it remains to be seen whether he can live up to that.

Is Bennedict Mathurin The Next Dwyane Wade

Mathurin had a solid rookie year, where he impressed a lot of fans and players with his aggression and passion for the game. He even garnered praise for outplaying LeBron James in a game against the Lakers early in the regular season.

For a player who has come from a difficult background, Mathurin’s success is great to see.

He struggled with family problems, even once admitting he didn’t know what family is. It is truly inspiring to see Mathurin overcome these struggles and find success in the NBA.
