Clippers star Paul George has never been shy about confronting the haters. On Saturday, he had to do it again after some noise that the work on his show ‘Podcast P,’ was becoming a distraction for the Clippers.

“I know people think, you know, I should be in the gym 24 hours out of the day. But no one does that,” George said via Law Murray of The Athletic. “I don’t care who the greats are, they’ve all had things outside of basketball. And so, you know, I found the passion in the media space.”

Paul George began his show a few years ago and it was an instant hit. Currently, the podcast has amassed thousands of followers on X and has accumulated millions of views across all platforms.

From sports to life to culture and everything in between, George lets everything spill on the program and it’s fair to consider this media work George’s second passion, right underneath basketball itself. Unfortunately, it’s not to everyone’s liking.

Recently, fans have begun to use the podcast as a way to blame George for the Clippers. failures. With new episodes dropping regularly, there is a growing movement of people who feel that Podcast P is nothing more than a distraction for the team.

Nevertheless, George has made it clear that he will not stop and he actually believes the podcast helps him play better.

“If anything it probably gets me more engaged on what’s going on around the league and basketball in general because of the knowledge I want to have, what I want to show, and create content. I’ve mentioned before It’s therapeutic…”

Say what you want about Podcast P, but George is more than holding his own out there with averages of 22.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game on 45.7% shooting this season.

Is 2024 The Clippers’ Year?

Historically, Paul George’s track record is rather infamous for playoff flame-outs. During his stint with the Clippers, he’s only reached the Conference Finals once, when they lost to the Phoneix Suns in 6 games back in 2021.

In the years that followed, George has been mixed in all kinds of trade rumors as both his future and the future of the franchise were shrouded in significant doubt.

This season, however, the Clippers have their best chance in a while to finally have a breakthrough in the playoffs. After the James Harden trade, the Clippers are playing with renewed energy and they look like a serious threat in the Western Conference.

Currently, at 41-21, the team is already sowing some promising signs on both ends of the floor and they’re not even close to where they want to be for the postseason. By all accounts, this could be the year that the Clippers pull off the impossible.

Until that outcome actually happens, there will always be some level of doubt in their capacity to win it all. So when they see a guy like Paul George, who has no championship rings to his name, spend so much time on his podcast that’s when the questions will begin to flow.

For George’s sake, the Clippers must make a run and put together a decent showing this April or things could get really ugly as his haters gather online.
