Paul George was furious at the Los Angeles Clippers for drafting Al-Farouq Aminu over him in the 2010 NBA Draft

George was ultimately selected as the 10th overall pick in the draft by the Indiana Pacers

PG13 played with a chip on his shoulder against the Clippers

Paul George is currently one of the best two-way players in the NBA. The Los Angeles Clippers hope to win an NBA Championship with him on the roster.

The Clippers acquired via trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2019. Ironically, the Clippers didn’t draft George with their eighth overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. It led to PG13 playing with a chip on his shoulder against them.

“Drafted 10th, Clippers had the 8th pick – I had a hell of a workout for the Clippers, they ended up picking Al-Farouq Aminu at the time,” George revealed in an episode of Podcast P. “So it was smoke from that point on, every time I played the Clippers.”

The Clippers selected Blake Griffin with the first overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. They could have paired Griffin with George, and it would have become an exciting young duo.

The Clippers made an obvious mistake. Paul George became one of the best small forwards in the last 10 years, averaging 20.6 PPG, 6.4 RPG, and 3.7 APG for his career. While Al- Farouq averaged 7.5 PPG, 6.0 RPG, and 1.2 APG during his 11-year stint in the NBA.

Of course, there’s the possibility that Paul George would have been included in the Chris Paul trade in 2011. As of now, George is a member of the Clippers and is trying to bring an NBA Championship to the organization.

Tyronn Lue Wants Paul George And Kawhi Leonard To Be Serious In The Regular Season

It’s been four seasons since the Los Angeles Clippers paired Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. The duo was supposed to win multiple NBA titles for the franchise. Instead, they have struggled to stay healthy.

Moreover, head coach Tyronn Lue recently urged the duo to take the regular season more seriously in the 2023-24 campaign.

“One thing I told Kawhi and PG recently was that we do gotta approach the regular season in a different way,” Lue said. “Most of the regular season, let’s be serious about it. Let’s not wait till the playoffs.

“Cuz it matters. Who you get matches up with, who’s got home-court advantage, not fighting the last 10 games, so we’re not in the play-in. So now you can get your rest. Now you can get yourself together and get yourself ready for the playoffs. So they both understood that as well.”

Let’s see if Lue’s message gets through to George and Leonard. The Clippers finished the 2022-23 season as the fifth seed in the West with a 44-38 record. However, they were eliminated in five games by the Phoenix Suns in the opening round of the postseason.
