Zion Williamson has not played for the New Orleans Pelicans this season, as he has been recovering from a foot injury. While there has been a lot of negative news surrounding that issue, it seems as though there is finally a positive update regarding his injury.

The New Orleans Pelicans have recently revealed that Zion Williamson’s bone healing in his foot has “improved” and that the young star will “gradually progress to full weight-bearing exercise and basketball activities”. However, there is still no timeline for Zion Williamson’s return. Earlier in the season, Zion Williamson was shut down from basketball activities due to him experiencing soreness in his foot, so this is definitely a good development.

Update on Zion: Recent imaging showed improved bone healing of the fifth metatarsal in Zion Williamson’s right foot. He will gradually progress to full weight-bearing exercise and basketball activities. He remains out indefinitely.

When Zion Williamson is healthy, he is one of the best power forwards in the NBA. During the 2020-21 season, he averaged 27.0 PPG, 7.2 RPG, and 3.7 APG, while shooting 61.1% from the field. There’s no doubt that Zion Williamson has shown enough to suggest that he could be a franchise-changing player. Hopefully, we’ll see him come back this season.

The New Orleans Pelicans are in a solid position currently, as they are the 10th seed in the Western Conference, after a disastrous 1-12 start. Brandon Ingram has shown improvement in a lot of areas this year, most notably his playmaking. They have also added an elite offensive guard in CJ McCollum to their roster. If Zion Williamson returns, they could definitely be a good enough team to make the playoffs, and if not, it is likely that they will make some noise next season if their squad can stay healthy.
