It’s open season on the Los Angeles Lakers right now, just about every team can get a win against them, and certainly, any team can make fun of them as well. Their failures have been the biggest story and the biggest surprise of the regular season, so a few jokes from around the league are to be expected. When a franchise has also enjoyed as much success as the Lakers have throughout history, it’s always fun for others to see them falter like this.

The New Orleans Pelicans have their ax to grind with them and became the latest team to beat the Lakers on Friday night. Los Angeles and LeBron James were quite open about prying Anthony Davis away from the organization and it’s something that the franchise and its fans haven’t forgotten about. Even Brandon Ingram seems to be enjoying beating his former team, something he made clear after the game.

The Pelicans’ social media team has gotten in on the fun as well, taking to Twitter to take a bit of a shot at the Lakers. They did so by cracking a joke at their own expense too, changing the official Twitter bio to remind everyone that the Lakers did lose to them.

“tweet to @ESPN that not only did the Lakers lose, it was the Pelicans that beat them.”

Considering the almost endless amount of coverage the Lakers get and the lack of credit generally given by sports media to their opponents, this is a really funny move by the Pelicans’ social media team. The team is looking to be on course to finish as the 9th seed, giving themselves a decent shot at getting into the playoffs even without Zion.

As for the Lakers, they can expect a lot more of this unless they go on a winning run that surprises everyone and ends with a playoff performance that helps them salvage at least a little pride. It’s very unlikely though, and it might just be time to painfully laugh at some jokes and prepare to make changes in the offseason.
