Los Angeles Clippers forward P.J. Tucker is reportedly seeking a trade, expressing a desire to part ways with the team. According to reports, Tucker has been actively looking for a trade opportunity, confirming this sentiment during a recent encounter in Toronto.

The 38-year-old veteran has played in only 12 games with the Clippers this season after being acquired alongside James Harden in a previous deal. In Los Angeles, Tucker has averaged 1.2 points and 2.4 rebounds per game, with shooting percentages of 28.6 from the field and 27.3 from beyond the arc.

Despite his limited on-court contributions this season, Tucker showcased his value as a valuable rotation player during his stint with the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2022-23 season. While his statistical output may not have been remarkable, Tucker’s impact extended beyond the numbers, earning him recognition as one of the 76ers’ best defensive players.

The Boston Celtics are suggested as a potential landing spot for Tucker, with the team’s strong starting lineup but a need for additional depth. Considering Tucker’s defensive prowess and experience, he could bolster the Celtics’ rotation and contribute to their pursuit of an NBA title.

The Celtics, currently leading the league with a 38-12 record, present an attractive destination for Tucker to contend for a championship. The player also dropped a hint about potentially re-joining the Miami Heat as well.

As the trade deadline approaches, Tucker’s desire for a trade could lead to a move to a title-contending team, leveraging his defensive skills and veteran presence in a bid for postseason success.

The Lakers Should Be Keen On Acquiring PJ Tucker

Amid the Lakers’ recent setback with Jarred Vanderbilt’s injury, leaving concerns about a potential season-long absence, the team should consider the prospect of acquiring PJ Tucker to bolster their defensive lineup. Vanderbilt, known for his stellar perimeter defense, suffered a setback due to injury, leaving a significant void in the Lakers‘ defensive capabilities.

While PJ Tucker may not contribute significantly on the offensive end, his prowess as a lockdown defender is a valuable asset. Notably, Tucker has the versatility to guard all five positions effectively, making him a formidable defensive presence. Additionally, he brings a better 3-point shooting capability compared to Vanderbilt, adding a valuable dimension to the Lakers’ game.

However, the obstacle for the Lakers lies in Tucker’s existing contract, a 3-year, $33 million deal currently in its second year, with a player option for the third year at $11.5 million. Acquiring Tucker would push the Lakers over the salary cap, potentially incurring additional luxury tax implications.

To navigate this challenge, the Lakers could explore options such as the Clippers waiving Tucker or reaching a buyout agreement. If successful, Tucker could become a free agent, providing an opportunity for the Lakers to sign him without directly absorbing his existing contract.

This scenario would be beneficial for both parties, allowing Tucker to relocate to Los Angeles and contribute to the Lakers’ defensive efforts, potentially addressing the void left by Vanderbilt’s absence. As the Lakers weigh their options, a strategic approach involving a potential buyout or waiver could pave the way for PJ Tucker to join the team.
