Ray Allen is a polarizing player. Some may hate him, some may love him, but no one in the world can argue the fact that he’s one of the best to ever do it.
Throughout his career Allen reinvented himself. He started off as a driver, an aggressive scorer, and the team’s go-to-guy, to being a spot-up shooter and having one of the quickest triggers and smoothest shots in the history of the game.
That sharpshooting ability helped him cement himself as one of the biggest threats from beyond the arc in the league and that helped him extend his career a couple of years longer. Moreover, his shooting skills gave the Miami Heat another opportunity to win an NBA Championship.
So, now that the NBA’s on hold, Allen took his time to talk with ESPN’s Omar Raja to discuss his game-tying three-pointer in game 6 of the NBA Finals, the shot that some may say that saved LeBron James’ legacy:
“We had to get the ball. It doesn’t matter, I can’t sit on the perimeter, we gotta be active contributors so that was me trying to get out there and then CB (Chris Bosh) looked at me and then he threw me the ball. And to me, that was the greatest moment right there. He could’ve done anything with it and I asked him ‘what did you give it to me?’ and he said ‘Are you kidding me?, I wouldn’t have given it to anybody else in the world,” Allen said.
Bosh had the biggest rebound of his career, partially thanks to Allen’s help down low trying to bother Manu Ginobili and Danny Green. Bosh then kicked it to the perimeter and the rest, as you may know by now, is history.
Allen’s epic shot will go down as one of the most clutch and most exciting moments in NBA history, so thank god Chris Bosh trusted him and gave him the chance to do what he did best.
