  • Redditor goes viral for discovering a 15-year-old message from Dwyane Wade
  • NBA fans react to Wade’s Facebook message
  • Wade is being called to follow-up with the fan after over a decade of no-contact

For most fans, receiving a personal message from former NBA superstar Dwyane Wade would be an unforgettable experience. But for one Redditor, it wasn’t even until over a decade later that he noticed a message from the NBA legend in his inbox.

“Just wanted to drop a note and say it’s been real cool reading your comments on my Facebook page,” Wade wrote in the message. ” I’ve also been reading a lot of people who don’t think this really isn’t me. But it’s official, this is the real DWade and I’m starting to get into this Facebook thing – just like everyone else! So I may drop a line every now and then to let you know what’s on my mind – and I always appreciate the love back.”

The second part of the message gets into specifics on the season before ending things with a final expression of gratitude. “So we have a little over 20 games left in the season… tomorrow we go up against Utah and will go for another win… it will be good to see some of my Olympic teammates. After the game we leave for a long road trip – it’s always tough to go on the road but we’re focused and we know every game counts. Again, thanks for the love… stay blessed.”

The message was sent back in March of 2009 and there’s no way to verify if the claim is legitimate, but the Redditor does provide some more details in the post. According to u/imapissonitdripdrip, he found the message when going through some old posts on Facebook and he has confirmed that the sender is from Dwyane Wade’s verified account.  Even so, nobody knows if the message was written by Wade himself or by a social media manager. “I don’t recall people running your social being a thing 15 years ago,” wrote the Reddit user. “It’s long enough ago to make me think it might be him and not someone running the page.”

This Fan Left Dwyane Wade Hanging

If the encounter really was Wade, it’s pretty funny that the Redditor essentially left him hanging for 15 years. Even back in 2009, when social media was still in its infancy, Wade was probably surprised when he was his touching private message was met with complete silence. But it’s better to be discovered late than never, and some fans were pushing for the user to attempt a response all these years later.

Ironically, Wade sent this message during the height of his prime when he probably should have been too busy playing to worry about sending the fans private messages on Facebook. Wildly enough, he would go on to drop 48 points against the Bulls in the very next night, perhaps using his unacknowledged DM as fuel for revenge. But maybe now that he’s retired from the game, he’ll be able to follow-up with this story.

Will Dwyane Wade Reconnect With The One Who Ghosted Him?

With his NBA career in the rearview mirror now, Dwyane Wade is enjoying life as a businessman and part-team owner of the Utah Jazz. But when he’s not fulfilling his obligations to those roles, he does make some time for the fans.

If this story blows up and goes viral online, it could make its way to Wade himself, and it will be interesting to see if he has anything to say about it. But after being ghosted for 15 years, he’s got a unique opportunity to turn this missed social media connection into a memorable fan moment that nobody will forget. Either way, this is the perfect example of why it’s always a good idea to keep up with your social media inbox.
