In a chat with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, James family agent, Rich Paul, revealed the plan for Bronny’s upcoming draft decision. According to Paul, Bronny’s choice will come down to team interest over draft position meaning that he will be very selective in where he ends up in the NBA.

“I don’t value a young player getting into the lottery as much as I do getting him on the right team in the right developmental situation,” Paul told ESPN on Saturday. “LeBron wants Bronny to be his own man.”

LeBron James has been pretty clear about his desire to play with his son in the NBA and they’d become the first father-son pairing in NBA history to be teammates at the same time. But LeBron is also clear about letting Bronny follow whatever path he chooses for himself and it remains to be seen which direction he will go right now.

As the son of an NBA legend with a lifetime of training, experts predicted that Bronny would be a future basketball star and he projected as high as 10th in the earliest mock drafts. But now, it seems Bronny is less concerned about how early he gets picked and more about which team he will end up playing for to begin his NBA career.

According to Paul, the most important thing for Bronny is to get him in a situation that can develop his basketball abilities and set him up for sustained long-term success. Of course, it will also help that teams in the later portions of the lottery will be in a better position to win games.

Ultimately, it’s still too early to say which team will land Bronny James but his draft stock is relatively low right now and some experts believe he may be better off with an extra year or two at USC.

When Will Bronny Get Drafted?

Based on pure potential, Bonny may be one of the best prospects in his class but after suffering a cardiac arrest this summer he hasn’t been able to make a serious impact on the court. With averages of 5.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game this season, his numbers have been far from impressive and the Trojans have been one of the worst teams in their Conference.

While there is no doubt that interest will remain strong with Bronny, it’s becoming increasingly likely that his NBA debut may have to be postponed until next year or beyond. If he does get picked this year, projections indicate he could be a second-round pick bound for teams looking for a chance to sign LeBron.

There may be no team in a better position to sign James Jr. than the Lakers. They own their second-round picks in 2024 and they can use it to please LeBron while adding a promising young shooter in the backcourt who can learn and grow under his father. It’s a win-win for both sides and maybe what both of them are going for at this point.

Besides the Lakers, any team in the league could be the one to take a chance on Bronny but the decision will be his on when/if he decides to make the leap at all. Regardless of the choice, LeBron wants Bronny to forge his own path and pursue whatever rit is that makes him happy, whether it’s being teammates with him or not.
