  • Ronnie picks the Suns over the Lakers, Bucks, and Nuggets to win the title
  • Ronnie 2K says bench additions were the missing piece for Phoenix
  • Kevin Durant is managing championship-level expectations on new-look Suns team

With over a month to go before the start of a new NBA season, it’s still far too early to make predictions on who will win the next championship. Regardless, NBA 2K’s ambassador ‘Ronnie 2K’ made his pick for who will be the last team standing for this upcoming season.

“The Suns are my champions,” Ronnie 2K said in an interview with ClutchPoints. “I think they figure it out. The biggest thing is obviously everybody’s talking about Bradley Beal joining that trio, but they also got deep. Like their bench, I mean, that was the problem. I mean, it wasn’t like Devin Booker and Kevin Durant were sleeping through the playoffs, like they just didn’t have anything else. And so I think the changes they made were great.”

Ever since their breakout moment in the 2020 bubble, the Suns have been a consistent threat in the West. Just a few years ago, they came to within two wins of the championship before losing to the Bucks in 6 games.

This past year, they weren’t nearly as effective despite having Devin Booker and Kevin Durant on the team. The two of them, while talented, were not enough to get the Suns a title on their own, but there is renewed hope in what they can do going forward.

Suns Are The New Favorites In The West

The Denver Nuggets are expected to dominate the conference for years to come, but Phoenix made strides to catch up with their offseason acquisitions. Their biggest move of all was trading for sharpshooting guard Bradley Beal, who adds another layer of offensive versatility alongside Book and KD.

For supporting talent, the Suns have some pretty solid players to back up their core. The best of them is probably Deandre Ayton, who is still good for 20 and 10 on any given night.

From top to bottom, the Suns are really unmatched in terms of star power and the defensive brilliance of coach Frank Vogel will have them battling on both ends of the floor.

So, after a so-and-so campaign in 2022, Phoenix is on track to make some noise this season with their new-look roster. The only thing in their way will be a few worthy competitors…

The Lakers Still Pose A Major Threat In The West

While not as flashy as the Suns or as clean as the Nuggets, there could be something special brewing in Los Angeles. This summer, the Lakers made sure to take another step up in the West by adding supporting talent around LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and promising young guard Austin Reaves.

For the Suns to finally bring home a championship, it’s likely they’ll have to go through the Lakers at some point and it remains to be seen how they’d handle such a situation.

As strong, deep, and experienced as the Lakers are, they cannot be counted out against anyone, and their play last season proved it. Somehow, despite starting the season 2-10, the Lakers thrived with their backs against the wall and used what little life they had left to fuel their playoff victories.

Needless to say, the work is cut out for Kevin Durant and the Suns.
