Russell Westbrook made a major business move by investing in the ownership group taking over soccer club Leeds United.
Westbrook will become a minority stakeholder in the 49ers Enterprises, who own the NFL team San Francisco 49ers. The Los Angeles Clippers star shared about his investment during the Variety and Sportico Sports & Entertainment Summit.
“I was lucky enough to have conversations with some of the partners in this deal as well that already have ownership, as you mentioned the 49ers, I was lucky enough to talk through that,” Westbrook said. “Just talking through different things, talking to my business partner as well, and having conversations and figuring out of this is the right deal.”

The 49ers Enterprises will acquire the soccer club for $214 million. Leeds United was previously owned by Andrea Radrizzani, who held a 56% stake in the club.
Westbrook will become the minority owner of the club. Leeds were relegated to the second-tier Championship after a disappointing 2022-23 season.
Russell Westbrook Will Return To The Los Angeles Clippers
Russell Westbrook is making strides off the court with his recent investment. As for his career in the NBA, Brodie signed a two-year deal worth $8 million with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Westbrook averaged 15.8 PPG, 4.9 RPG, and 7.6 APG in 21 games for the Clippers last season. He will be a valuable addition to the roster. Keeping that in mind, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas believes Russell Westbrook deserves a contract worth $100 to $150 million in free agency.
The 2016-17 MVP settled for a small contract in hopes of winning an NBA Championship. The Clippers finished as the fifth seed in the Western Conference with a 44-38 record.
They were eliminated in the first round of the postseason by the Phoenix Suns in five games. Westbrook and Clippers will hope to make a deep playoff run in the 2023-24 season.
