Victor Wembanyama is all set to take some time off basketball before he jumps headlong into a grueling summer training ahead of his rookie season with the San Antonio Spurs.
Speaking to People, the French phenom was excited about his vacation and shared his plans.
“I’m gonna take just a little bit of rest before going back to the workouts and to working during the summer, and it’s going to be a really intense summer.”
He further added:
“You know, we’re gonna be able to see great changes by the end of the summer as much on the physical level as on the technical level, you know? I think this summer’s gonna change my life.”
Wembanyama got his first taste of what it would be like in the NBA when he played in the Summer League in Las Vegas. He was seen in action for two games before being shut down so as to keep his body fresh for the tough season ahead.
In what was his official NBA debut, he scored an underwhelming nine points on 2-for-13 shooting in the first game. He did make amends, though, in the second game with 27 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks.
Maybe a perfect vacation is what he will need before Coach Pop puts him through the wringer.
Victor Wembanyama Wants To Be The Best No. 1 Pick In NBA History
Victor Wembanyama hasn’t minced words when it comes to making bold claims and he wasn’t about to stop now. His latest one was wanting to be the best No. 1 pick in the history of the NBA.
“I’ve been looking into all the data of the past years, the past number one picks, and what impact they’ve had. I’m trying to be better than every guy before me.” While some believed Wemby had what it takes to become the GOAT.
“If he’s not hurt, he’ll be the greatest player ever,” said the agent, who has multiple clients playing overseas and in the NBA. “He’s the best player in the league and the level of players he’s playing against are the best players in the Pac-12, the best college players, borderline NBA guys — and he’s dominating. Dominating. Wembanyama’s physicality, I think people underestimate because he’s so thin. He’s a physically strong dude. When everything opens in the NBA, he’s going to be unstoppable, totally unstoppable. He’ll be the best rim protector in the NBA from day one. And then offensively he’ll be an efficient, unstoppable force from day one.”
Hopefully, the teen lauded as the generational prospect will live up to the standards that he’s set.
