Big man Victor Wembanyama is one of the best prospects in recent memory, and many believe that he has the potential to be a special player. The expectations for Wembanyama are ever-rising, and it seems as though Wembanyama has the desire to be great.

When speaking to ESPN recently, Victor Wembanyama dropped a bold claim. He stated that he has been doing some research about former No. 1 picks, and he wants to be better than all of them.

“I’ve been looking into all the data of the past years, the past number one picks, and what impact they’ve had. I’m trying to be better than every guy before me.”

To become the best No. 1 pick in NBA history, Victor Wembanyama would have to surpass some NBA legends. The most prominent name, of course, is LeBron James, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. James is widely considered to be the 2nd best player in NBA history. Of course, surpassing LeBron James is easier said than done, but Victor Wembanyama has the talent to make it happen.

Some People Believe Victor Wembanyama Can Become The GOAT

There is no doubt that Victor Wembanyama is very gifted, and is a generational talent. In fact, an NBA agent claimed that Wembanyama has the potential to become the GOAT of basketball.

“If he’s not hurt, he’ll be the greatest player ever,” said the agent, who has multiple clients playing overseas and in the NBA. He’s the best player in the league and the level of players he’s playing against are the best players in the Pac-12, the best college players, borderline NBA guys — and he’s dominating. Dominating. Wembanyama’s physicality, I think people underestimate because he’s so thin. He’s a physically strong dude. When everything opens in the NBA, he’s going to be unstoppable, totally unstoppable. He’ll be the best rim protector in the NBA from day one. And then offensively he’ll be an efficient, unstoppable force from day one.”

Hopefully, we do see Victor Wembanyama deliver on the expectations. Though expecting him to be the GOAT could be setting him up for failure, it is clear that everyone is high on the sort of player that Wembanyama can be.
