Shannon Sharpe: ‘LeBron James Is Still The GOAT Despite Never Having A HOF Coach’

2 Min Read

LeBron James has been lucky enough to have played with multiple Hall-of-Fame players over the course of his career. In fact, in Cleveland, Miami, and Los Angeles, it’s fair to say James was on the most stacked team in the league at the time.

But what about coaches? Unlike guys like MJ and Kobe, LeBron has never played for a true Hall-of-Fame level coach, which is why (on FOX’s Undisputed), according to Shannon Sharpe, LeBron’s case for the G.O.A.T. title is even more impressive.

So far, Bron’s best coaches have included Tyronn Lue, Frank Vogel, and Miami’s Eric Spoelstra. Usually, when teams have a guy like LeBron, they bring in a coach to match his talents.

The King, though, has never really known the luxury of playing for elite coaching figures like Gregg Popovich, Pat Riley, or Phil Jackson. Instead, he’s been through coaches like people go through shirts. Mike Malone, David Blatt, Luke Walton — those are just some of the names attributed to LeBron, all of whom have since been fired by their respective teams.

The fact that he’s been doing all of this without a brilliant coaching mind guiding his way really says a lot about his maturity and leadership. Imagine what he could have done with a truly elite coach in his corner.
