Russell Westbrook will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer when he retires, and there’s no doubt that the point guard has had an accomplished career. However, he remains one of the most polarizing players in the league. Many Westbrook fans appreciate the energy he brings on the court, but a lot of detractors get frustrated with his inefficient and turnover-heavy play style.

Recently, Shannon Sharpe made a wild comparison between Russell Westbrook and Donald Trump supporters. He pointed out that both groups think that their player/politician is “never wrong.”

“What I don’t get is this Trump-like support [for Russell Westbrook]. He’s been on five teams in five years. So all of these teams were wrong? Everybody, the Lakers, the Wizards, the OKC, the Houston … everybody was wrong? To them, he’s never wrong.”

There is no doubt that this is a wild thing to say. Russell Westbrook fans do frequently defend him on social media, and they can be unreasonable, but comparing them to Donald Trump supporters seems like an exaggeration.

Russell Westbrook is putting up 13.3 PPG, 3.9 RPG, and 7.5 APG for the Los Angeles Clippers this season. He has improved his efficiency during his time with the team and is shooting 50.6% from the field with the Clippers. Hopefully, he continues to do well, and there’s no doubt that Westbrook still has the ability to contribute to a winning team.

Ty Lue Likes Russell Westbrook’s Fit With The Clippers

Even though Russell Westbrook may not have played his best during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, he has been a solid player for the Clippers thus far. In fact, coach Tyronn Lue previously stated that Russell Westbrook has “been great” for the team thus far.

“It’s a 100 percent buy-in, and he’s been great,” Lue said. “Even last game when he didn’t go back in just talking to T-Mann, talking to the guys, staying engaged, cheering for his teammates, and it was huge. And so what he’s brought to our team has been great just far as we’ve been asking to do a lot of different things and trying to learn on the fly, not a lot of time to really have time to really practice it and go over it. So he’s been doing a lot of things on the fly, but he’s been great.”

The 3PT shooting on the Los Angeles Clippers roster definitely makes things easier for Russell Westbrook on the court. He can now play to his strengths rather than being expected to play on the perimeter.

The Los Angeles Clippers are a contending team on paper, and Russell Westbrook could end up being an x-factor for the team in the playoffs. It will be interesting to see how he does, and hopefully, we see the best version of Westbrook, as this is his best chance to win a championship.
