  • Shannon Sharpe blames himself for ruining relations with Skip Bayless
  • Sharpe says Skip lost all respect for him during a heated argument
  • Undisputed numbers are down after Sharpe’s exit from the show

For years, FOX’s Undisputed with Skip and Shannon was among the top sports shows in the business but, as with all good things, it didn’t last very long. Despite some clear and tangible chemistry between the two sports experts, they split this past summer after a viral argument got out of control.

Appearing on the Stephen A. Smith show, Shannon himself looked back on the moment where it all went wrong and explained how it was actually due to his own mistakes that things went off the rails. “A lot of that is my fault,” said Shannon. “Because there were times that led up to that that I felt shots were taken and I let it go. And he felt that he could go over the top in that situation.”

For those that don’t remember, Shannon’s big spat with Skip was caught live on Undisputed after Bayless resorted to taking personal attacks against Sharpe in their debate. Not long after, both sides moved on and there may still be some lingering feelings about it. “Whatever the relationship is, once one partner has no respect for the other, the other partner then in turn loses respect for said partner. Then I think it’s only a matter of time. I felt in that moment [Skip Bayless] had lost all respect for me, he had no respect for me and it really, really hurt me.”

Skip Bayless Is Gaining Critics In the NBA Community

With the rise of social media, sports journalism has taken off in brand new ways and Skip Bayless was able to ride the wave to the top of ESPN. But after his exit from the network, and his breakup with Stephen A. Smith, he’s been given the full green light to operate with full discretion for FOX.

While Skip isn’t in danger of losing his platform, his list of enemies and haters grows stronger by the day for his hot takes, personal attacks, and broken relationships with some of the industry’s top stars. Even so, Skip still has some defenders out there and there’s no denying that he’s partly responsible for the success of both Stephen A. and Shannon Sharpe. “Don’t make the mistake of assuming that I’m going to speak against my man, Skip Bayless,” Smith said. “That’s not going to happen. Remember when I told you that I was the star of the No. 1 sports morning show for the last 11 and a half years? The first four years of that were with Skip Bayless. I’m never in that position if it were not for Skip Bayless.”

Shannon Sharpe Is Set Up For Success With ESPN

While things may never be the same for Shannon and his former partner, one could argue he’s in better hands on his own at ESPN. Since rejoining the network, and being featured on First Take, the show has climbed the charts with record viewership.

Together, Stephen A. And Shannon make a pretty formidable duo and they know how to make things interesting on the debate table. Once the NBA season begins, it will be interesting to see how the conversation changes from what it was in years past but there’s no going back now. Skip really hurt Shannon and that relationship seems beyond repair now. Only time will tell if the same will be true for Shannon and his newest debate partner.
