Shaquille O’Neal recently shared his thoughts on “The Draymond Green Show” about why “Inside The NBA” is considered the best basketball show on television. He highlighted several key factors that contribute to its success and popularity among fans.

“I wanted to be the black Brian Gumbel and use big words and do all that. And TNT said, motherf***er, we’ll fire your a** tomorrow. And I think that’s what makes our show the best show out there.”

“G14 classification, Barkley Hall of Famer, Kenny two-time champion, Ernie, best analyst in the world. But you guys can be yourself. We crack jokes, we do a lot of stuff.”

“You also have to realize after watching two games, good games or bad games, the fans, the real people don’t have to work in the morning. If we’re going to keep you up past your bedtime, the least we want to do is entertain you.”

“And I think the reason why they hired you. You’re very intelligent. And you’re definitely one of us. You know how to crack jokes. You and Charles were awesome at the All-Star game. Y’all have me rolling. So welcome to the team.” (42:25)

Firstly, the authenticity of the show sets it apart. Shaq mentioned that he initially tried to adopt a more formal, polished approach, but TNT encouraged him to be himself. This emphasis on authenticity allows the hosts to present their true personalities, making the show more relatable and engaging for viewers. The straightforward and genuine style of the hosts resonates with the audience, adding a layer of credibility and connection that scripted shows often lack.

The diverse qualifications and backgrounds of the hosts also play a crucial role. With Charles Barkley, a Hall of Famer; Kenny Smith, a two-time NBA champion; Ernie Johnson, an acclaimed analyst; and Shaq himself, a legendary player, the panel brings a wealth of experience and expertise.

This mix ensures that discussions are well-rounded and insightful, covering various aspects of the game from multiple perspectives.

Humor and entertainment are integral to the show’s appeal. Shaq pointed out that the hosts are encouraged to crack jokes and have fun, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. This balance of serious basketball analysis and light-hearted banter keeps viewers entertained, even after watching hours of games. The hosts’ camaraderie and playful interactions add a unique dynamic that sets “Inside The NBA” apart from more formal sports shows.

Engaging the audience, especially during late-night broadcasts, is another strength of the show. Recognizing that fans might be tired after watching multiple games, the hosts make an effort to keep the content lively and entertaining. This approach ensures that viewers stay engaged and look forward to tuning in, regardless of the quality of the games.

The recent addition of Draymond Green to the team has further enhanced the show’s dynamic. Shaq praised Green’s intelligence and sense of humor, noting that he fits in well with the existing hosts. This ability to seamlessly integrate new personalities while maintaining the show’s core appeal speaks to the strength of its format and the adaptability of its hosts.

Despite concerns that TNT might lose its NBA license due to new media deals, there is hope that “Inside The NBA” will continue. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has indicated that no final decisions have been made, and there is optimism that the beloved crew will remain on air. This potential continuity reassures fans that they can continue to enjoy the unique blend of analysis and entertainment that “Inside The NBA” offers.

“Inside The NBA” stands out as the best basketball show due to its authenticity, diverse expertise, humor, and ability to engage viewers. The hosts’ genuine personalities, combined with their deep knowledge of the game, create a compelling and entertaining viewing experience that keeps fans coming back for more.

Shaquille O’Neal’s reflections highlight the unique qualities that make the show special and the hope that it will remain a staple of NBA broadcasting.
