Ja Morant is having a transcendental third season in the NBA, he is not just dominating every team on the court but he’s also captured the attention of the fans regardless of their team loyalties. His explosive ability and the fact that he’s essentially a human highlight reel makes him must-watch television but even more than that, his vibrant personality and competitive spirit have also drawn in fans.
Ja is supremely confident and plays with a chip on his shoulder, as seen earlier in the season when he stared down a young fan because he was wearing a Golden State Warriors jersey. Morant is unafraid of confrontations on the court either, regularly going right at the NBA’s best defenders and producing some of the most exciting dunks of the entire season.
His consistently elite performances, especially in the second half of February have seen Morant get some buzz for the MVP and he’s also put himself in a great position to be chosen for the All-NBA First Team. And Shaquille O’Neal has given his take on what makes Ja so great, explaining that the 22-year-old ‘wants it all’ while speaking on TNT.
“Ja Morant is a guy that wants it all. He wants all the smoke, all the praise, all the pressure and he wants this to be his league.”
Morant has been averaging 27.8 points per game this season, he’s up there with the best players in the league. His Grizzlies team has been doing exceptionally well behind these performances from Ja as well, they’re only half a game out of the 2nd seed in the Western Conference. This is undoubtedly Morant’s breakout season as a superstar but to be considered the face of the league, he would have to produce at this level consistently over the next few years and add a deep playoff run to his resume as well.
