Shaquille O’Neal Picks The Best Pose For Kobe Bryant’s Statue At Staples Center: “That Pull Up Jumper At The Buzzer Versus Phoenix”

2 Min Read

Shaquille O’Neal has ‘cast’ his vote for the pose for Kobe Bryant’s statue outside Staples Center. Kobe has been the subject of plenty of homages and this one will be one of the biggest. Bryant had a lot of good moments during his career and it’s hard to pick one. Well, not for Shaq, as he was quick to pick the right pose for the statue.

During a recent conversation in the Text Message Talk Show with Dorrell Wright on the Players’ Tribune, Shaq talked about several topics. Wright asked him what pose he’d like to see for Kobe’s statue and O’Neal made a great pick.

“That pull up jumper at the buzzer versus Phoenix in the first round of the 2006 playoffs,” Shaq wrote.

Wright couldn’t agree more and said he liked that selection. Kobe had a lot of great moments during his career and that one is one of the best. The Lakers were still getting over Shaq’s departure to the Heat and Kobe carried that team with little talent. Kobe took the Lakers to have a 3-1 lead before blowing the lead but that shows how great he was that season.

He made the 7th seed Lakers put up a fight against the 2nd seed Phoenix Suns and were very close to upsetting them. That year, Shaq won the title with the Miami Heat while Kobe couldn’t get proper help to take the Lakers to the top once again. Still, seeing how meaningful that moment was, the context of the moment, and the fact that it was at the Staples Center make that pose a great selection.
