Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley have become close friends over the years. The two former NBA superstars have achieved that by providing razor-sharp takes on the ‘Inside The NBA’ show.

But before becoming friends, the two players found each other in a heated altercation during a game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets. Speaking of which, Shaq recently revealed that he wanted to fight Barkley in the locker room.

“I was gonna whoop his a** in the back,” O’Neal said. “He hit me with the ball, and I’m seizing him up. I’m in the locker room. I’m not going to even take a shower. I’m f*****g him up when I get out of the bus. So my uncle hands me the phone, it’s my mama and his mom on the line. I never knew they were friends. My mama was like, ‘Y’all need to stop that, y’all too legendary.'”

Shaquille O’Neal is known for his goofy nature nowadays. But during his playing days, Shaq didn’t think twice before trying to beat down his opponents if they crossed the line.

Fortunately, O’Neal’s mother calmed him down and made sure that her son didn’t get into a fight. Shaq always seems to have a soft spot for his or any other player’s mother, for that matter.

It was proven when the Diesel wanted to teach Gary Payton a lesson in the locker room. However, Payton’s mother stepped in before things escalated out of hand.

Shaquille O’Neal And Charles Barkley Went To Dinner After Their Infamous Fight In 1999

NBA players fighting against each other is not a new thing, and fans have seen a plethora of fights taking place in the league over the years. But they always expect the players to make up with each other after fighting.

Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley did so by going to dinner after their infamous fight in 1999.

“It wasn’t really a fight scene, because he didn’t want to hit me,” Shaq said. “I really didn’t want to hit him, I just wanted to tag him. But, you know it was a wild punch. He tackled me and we lay there. We went out for dinner after the game. See! A lot of people didn’t know that we went out to eat after the game. It was all marketers!”

As O’Neal mentioned, not many were aware of the fact that the two NBA legends went to dinner after the fight. Even if the media knew about it, the coverage of it wouldn’t have been as vigorous.
