This season, Luka Doncic is the NBA’s scoring leader, averaging 33.2 points per game. He even has a co-star now with the arrival of Kyrie Irving, although this has not stopped the Mavericks from going 4-6 in their last 10 games.

And while Luka Doncic deserves praise for the fantastic performances he regularly puts up, Skip Bayless has called him out for something he deserves to be called out for.

“He worked harder and harder on his three-point shot. It’s getting to be more lethal where he’s making you respect it a little bit more,” Bayless said, complimenting Doncic on the things he does well. “He’s been working harder on his free throws. He’s going to get to the free throw line a lot.”

But despite giving Luka props for something he has often criticized him for, Bayless took a minute to call him out as well, saying, “That’s only if he stops bitching about every call that he doesn’t get.”

Even the biggest Luka Doncic fan cannot dispute that there are times when the superstar complains too much. His altercations with the referees and poor body language have cost his team, sometimes killing momentum. This is something Doncic has to seriously work on moving forward.

Luka Doncic Has Accepted That He Needs To Be Better With The Referees

Getting back on defense is paramount for Luka Doncic to take the next step. And the crazy part of all this is that he accepted that he needs to be better about how he handled the referees in the past. In 2022, he deemed his behavior on that front as ‘unacceptable.’

“If you saw the last two games, I was really good,” Doncic said. “I had a little talk with myself. It was unacceptable the way I was acting. Maybe it was some of my personal issues, but I had a talk with myself and I just said this can’t keep going. It’s a really bad look, I knew I was doing it but I kept doing it. It’s over now, I just had a talk with myself. No more, man.”

Despite saying this, things don’t seem to have changed for Doncic. When he gets frustrated, he falls back into his old habits. There are plenty of things that Luka Doncic does right on the basketball court, he is a prodigy. But this is something he will have to control if the Mavericks are going to become the best of the best, it’s not a good look for him or his team.
