Staples Center Curse: Lakers And Clippers Are 0-4 Since Announcing The Arena Name Change

Silver Screen and Roll

Perhaps one of the most recognizable sports arenas (second to madison Square Garden) is the famous Staples Center, a place that two of the NBA’s most prestigious franchises have called home since 1999.

In that building, under that name, many great and memorable moments have transpired, including the capture of 6 NBA Championships.

Recently, it was announced that the “Staples Center” will soon become the “Crypto.com” arena, much to the chagrin of Lakers fans around the globe.

Coincidently, neither the Lakers nor Clippers have won in that building since the name change was announced (not counting the game that was already underway).

Is there some kind of curse that has engulfed the arena? Probably not, but it hasn’t stopped some fans from having a little fun with the thought of it.

On a serious note though, there are a lot of people who find it a little weird to be changing the arenas name after all these years, including Paul George, who had this to say about the news:

“It’ll be weird. I grew up with this being Staples and Staples being the place to play.and the place to be. It’ll definitely be weird. It’s the same location but it’s kind of like stripping the history here by calling something else and from there going forward it’s like I guess a new history to be written but it’ll be weird, for sure. Good thing we [Clippers] won’t be here too long. We’ll be at our own place so it is what it is I guess.”

The official change doesn’t actually happen until next month, soo we get to enjoy seeing Staples Center for a little while longer at least.

For the Clippers, they’ll be moving to a different building entirely pretty soon anyway, so it doesn’t affect them too much.

Hopefully, the Lakers will signal this big change by making brand new memories for the city and their fans…
