The Boston Celtics are once again among the favorites to win the championship, with a big reason for that being Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The two of them have shone on the court this season, but when Stephen A. Smith was asked if they are the best duo, he disagreed, as he claimed it is Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

“Gonna have to say no,” Smith said on NBA Countdown. “That dude Steph Curry is still alive with Klay Thompson. I’m going with the greatest shooting backcourt in history who happen to be the reigning defending champions.”

The Golden State Warriors had a rocky start to their title defense after losing Games 1 and 2 against the Sacramento Kings but they bounced back to win Game 3. Curry led the charge as he always does, with 36 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and a block.

Klay, on the other hand, struggled as he only had 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal, and a block while shooting 5-15 from the field. Thompson is now averaging just 18.3 PPG on 42.6% shooting from the field in this series and the only reason you would still say he forms the best duo in the league is because of everything he and Curry have accomplished over the years. Klay is capable of turning things around though, so perhaps you can’t completely write him off just yet when talking about being a part of the best duo.

Isiah Thomas Says Mark Jackson Changed The Game With Stephen Curry And Klay Thompson

Curry and Thompson will go down as one of the best duos in NBA history but not many would have seen that coming a decade ago. When then-Warriors head coach Mark Jackson claimed in 2013 that he had the best shooting backcourt in NBA history, he was ridiculed, but he has certainly been proven right.

NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas credited Jackson for changing the game by giving Curry and Thompson the license to shoot from distance back in those days. Jackson certainly laid the foundations for their success and Klay himself paid respect to his former coach for believing in them before anyone else did.
