Stephen A. Smith believes Kevin Durant was ready to betray his teammates. He called him out for not being the ideal leader of his team.

After months of drama, Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets put aside their differences and have decided to focus completely on the 2022-23 NBA season. KD infamously asked for a trade from the Nets and wanted out of the team at the start of the offseason.

But he later rescinded his request and is now apparently all set to play elite basketball with the rest of the team. During the NBA media day, the former NBA MVP also explained why he requested a trade from the Nets.

Durant explained in detail that one of the biggest reasons that he demanded the trade was the lack of certainty about whether he had the right team around him or not.

Stephen A. Smith Blasts Kevin Durant

NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith has made a lot of comments about Durant over the last few years. The veteran analyst never lets an opportunity slip up about calling out Durant for any possible reason.

This time around, Smith berated the Nets superstar for apparently throwing his team under the bus and wanted him to take responsibility while becoming a true leader.

“This is what I didn’t like about what Kevin Durant had to say. Essentially, you were ready to cut and run. That’s your team. … Look at the things that he said. People aren’t being held accountable. Well Kevin Durant, why the hell didn’t you hold them accountable? It’s your team. When you’re that dude, and you don’t like the way things are, you got some influence to change it. And he, instead of changing it, was looking to change his residence.”

While Durant has stayed with the Nets for the upcoming season, there’s still no guarantee that he will return for the rest of his contract.

If the Nets fail to have a good playoff run again, it could result in KD probably wanting out of the team and requesting a trade once again. But Nets fans will hope that it doesn’t happen and that the former NBA MVP can finally lead the Nets to an NBA Championship.
